About The Organizer

Department of Malaysian Studies

The Department of Malaysian Studies (DMS) situated within the Center for Asian Studies, Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University, was established on 25th June 2003. The initiative to establish the Department of Malaysian Studies was first mooted as a result of keen interest shown by professionals and academic community from Egypt on Malaysia. The Department serves two general objectives. Firstly, it acts as an academic center, conducting courses, promoting and organizing research, seminar, and conferences on Malaysia and Malaysia-Egypt relations. Secondly, the Department acts as a resource center to disseminate information on Malaysia to students, academics, and interested public. The center also conducts courses and training programs to help Malaysian students in Egypt and neighboring countries to acquire the necessary knowledge and expertise to enhance their job prospects upon their return to Malaysia.

The establishment of the Department marked the beginning of formal ties and collaboration between two of the oldest universities, University of Malaya of Malaysia and Cairo University of Egypt. Both institutions have vast resources and experts in various fields that could be tapped by the Department in carrying out its activities. The Department also acts as a gateway to many comparative studies between Southeast Asia, West Asia, and the Middle East.
